A new way to make the most of your Bible reading this year

bible2I’ve read through the Bible many times since someone gave me the idea to read through it in a year while I was in college.  Since then there have been some years where I kept up with it well, other years I get distracted by some other Bible reading plan or a long Old Testament book and don’t get through the whole Bible.  When my children were learning to read, I offered a new leather study Bible for each one of them if they made it through the Bible.

This year, why not try something different? A few months ago a group of guys in my men’s small group at church all signed up with the same Bible reading plan.  Then we created an email list where we each comment on what we’ve read.  Sometimes we just mention a verse that we like, other times we specifically mention applications to the passage that we read. This practice helps us to focus our reading, organize our thoughts as we read, and do all of this in community. I recommend that you give it a try this year. Below are a number of different plans to try;

I use this one from Bible Gateway.

Read through your ESV Bible this year with any of the following ten reading plans.

YouVersion offers a few more plans here.

Here’s a plan to read through the New Testament in 100 days.

Check out this plan designed for shirkers and slackers.

This is a good one to print out and use as a bookmark.

Faith Comes by Hearing offers an audio reading plan here.

Nice add to the conversation: How Not to Read Your Bible in 2013

What’s your plan? Other ideas to share?
