No individual church has all the resources to meet all the requests for aid that comes its way. One day the request might be for emergency housing, another day for utility assistance, another day marriage or family counseling. Sometimes requests come from members of the congregation; other days the request may come from someone with little connection to your church or even your community.
In our county, the various aid agencies have created a website where their services are listed. The services are categorized by topics like food/shelter, disability, substance abuse, and domestic violence.
Now those in need or people who are helping those in need have one place to go to for help for their specific need. If you don’t have this, you might consider creating it. Also it is a good way to find gaps in the services offered, it may reveal some key need that isn’t being met that your church can fill. In our case we discovered the need for more temporary housing and created Home For Awhile. More info here.
