Was talking with some friends in Africa and working on strategy for reaching the villages for Christ. One of the strengths of the staff is church planting. They claim to start two churches each month in a new village.
However, when going back to the villages to visit, it became clear that the “churches” were not healthy. We went back to the drawing board and decided that we needed more focus on developing the believers in the churches rather than starting new ones. In this case the metric of “number of new churches planted” was distorting the efforts of the ministry. Added to that should be “number of disciples”. This is a time when the most strategic thing to do for this staff is plant fewer churches.
