All but one of the 17 students who were part of the three summer overseas teams attended our Friday evening and all day Saturday re-entry retreat this weekend at a nearby retreat center.
The students experienced a whirlwind of lessons, but these lessons will only be retained if they are properly analyzed and applied. The purpose of the retreat is to guide students through their experience and capture the relevant lessons.
At first we allowed the students to share the God Stories, the cool things that they saw God do. Then we broke up into the three summer teams and with a facilitator, talked through what the students learned about God, the new culture, teamwork, and themselves.
We then explained opportunities for further service this fall and after graduation. Including work with international students, recruiting students to go overseas next year, and long-term missionary service. Our conclusion was to commission the students for further ministry on their campus this fall.
